KHON2 News Receives a Prestigious Edward R. Murrow Regional Award

As announced early this morning, KHON2 News has won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Regional Award by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

Under the Best Use of Video category, the award goes to reporter/ “Wake Up 2day” morning news co-anchor Olena Heu and videographer Taires Hiranaka for their “Marines Homecoming” news story last November.

“I am very proud of Olena and Tai for winning this award for KHON2. They are two of our many rising stars and I'm glad this distinguished organization recognized their good work,” said KHON2 News Director Lori Silva.
The award-winning story will now be entered into the national Murrow Awards, which will be announced later this year.

WKBN TV Wins 2012 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Best Website

New Vision Television of Youngstown is proud to announce their website WKBN.com has won the prestigious 2012 Regional Edward R. Murrow award under the category “Best Broadcast Affiliated Website”.

NVT Youngstown competed against television stations in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. This year, Radio Television Digital News Association judges awarded 645 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 14 categories, including overall excellence, breaking news, investigative reporting and best website. Awards are broken up by medium (radio, television, online) and by market size (small and large.)

RTDNA received more than 3,500 entries during the 2012 awards season, eclipsing 2011 by more than 500 entries and setting an all-time record for entries in what proved to be one of the most competitive Edward R. Murrow Awards seasons in RTDNA history, according to a release from RTDNA.

KSN Adds Newscasts and Staff

KSN, Channel 3, today announced it is adding a half hour to its weekday morning show effective January 9. Mark Davidson and meteorologist Leon Smitherman will provide 2 1⁄2 hours of local news and weather each day.
Also in January, KSN will begin airing a Sunday newscast at 5pm with news anchor Aileen Simborio and meteorologist Mark Bogner. These changes occur as KSN launches “Fox Kansas News at 9” January 2 for KSAS-TV. In total KSN will be producing seven additional hours of news each week and expanding it’s on air news content by 30%.

This week WJCL (ABC) and WTGS (FOX) signed on Monday morning began broadcasting from a multi-million dollar, state of the art facility located on the third floor of the Savannah Morning News. After months of planning and construction WJCL signed on at approximately 4:30 am with WTGS following shortly thereafter at 7:46 am.

For the second consecutive year, Myvalleysports.com, which produces sports content both for their website, and for the CBS, ABC, and FOX television newscasts, captured Ohio’s “Best Sports Operation” award from Associated Press.
