In recognition of the season 2 finale of the FOX hit television phenomenon “GLEE,” the Hawaii State Governor Neil Abercrombie, along with Lt. Governor Brian Schatz has proclaimed May 24, 2011 as “GLEE DAY” in Hawaii.
KHON2's Glee Season 2 Finale V-I-Gleek Event will be held tonight at Honolulu Design Center's Cupola Theatre beginning at 5:30pm. The official proclamation will be presented at the event. This is quite an honor. Glee, through its tremendous popularity has given a tremendous boost to drama, music and even Glee clubs in high schools across the Nation, said KHON2 President and General Manager Joe McNamara.
KHON2 held a two-tiered, month-long on-air and web promotion. Viewers looked for the "Are You A Gleek?" Trivia question in the KHON2 News and entered their answer on KHON2.com. One nightly winner with the correct answer was chosen to win VIP access to tonight's exclusive V-I-Gleek event. On Tuesday nights, the winner of the "Are You A Gleek" Trivia questions, which were placed in the KHON2 News as well as in GLEE, won a trip for two to see Glee Live in Concert! in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 21st, courtesy of Vacations Hawaii.
Now in its sophomore season, the FOX hit television show GLEE is a biting musical comedy about a group of eager and ambitious students who strive to outshine their singing competition to win Nationals while navigating the cruel halls of McKinley High that has quickly become a pop-culture phenomenon.
This season's #1 scripted hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens boasts critical acclaim, a loyal fan base of "GLEEks," two Grammy Award nominations, more than 22 million song downloads, the #1 soundtrack of 2010, the record for the most titles on the Billboard Hot 100 by a non-solo act (beating out Elvis Presley, James Brown and The Beatles), and an incredible 19 Emmy and 11 Golden Globe nominations, as well as four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes, including the award for Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical. To top it off, the genre-defying, award-winning series has been picked up through its third season.
