New Vision Television of Youngstown, which owns or operates four stations in the Youngstown, Ohio market, continues to bring home the hardware as prestigious organizations pass judgment on their work in 2011.
Showing the breadth and expertise of news content dissemination, the WKBN.COM website was voted Ohio’s best by the Associated Press.
For the second consecutive year, Myvalleysports.com, which produces sports content both for their website, and for the CBS, ABC, and FOX television newscasts, captured Ohio’s “Best Sports Operation” award from Associated Press.
NVT’s prolific team of Peggy Sinkovich and Nick Rich continue to pile on the accolades. In 2011 the duo was awarded a regional Murrow for their piece “Excessive Force.”
The Ohio Society of Professional Journalists added a first place for Sinkovich, Rich, and videographer D.J. Yokely for a story on racial profiling. OSPJ also awarded Sinkovich and Rich a first place under the Best Criminal Justice Reporting category for “Excessive Force,” and another first place under the category Best Medical Feature Reporting for the series “Caring for the Elderly.”
Rounding out the banner year for Sinkovich, the Trumbull County Soil and Conservation District voted her “Media Person of the Year.”
“We are proud of our accomplishments. This is an amazingly productive newsroom. We produce 8.5 hours of local newscasts each weekday over three stations, and populate five websites, all at an award-winning level,” says News Director Gary Coursen.
