WJCL/ABC • WTGS/FOX 28 • BEGINS EXCITING NEW CHAPTER
STATE OF THE ART DIGITAL FACILITY OFF TO A RUNNING START
October 6, 2011 – Savannah, GA – It is a new era for two television affiliates in Savannah, Georgia. This week WJCL (ABC) and WTGS (FOX) signed on Monday morning began broadcasting from a multi-million dollar, state of the art facility located on the third floor of the Savannah Morning News. After months of planning and construction WJCL signed on at approximately 4:30 am with WTGS following shortly thereafter at 7:46 am.
The move comes after parent companies New Vision Television (WJCL), Parkin Broadcasting (WTGS) and Morris Communications (Savannah Morning News) made the decision to cohabitate the building on Chatham Parkway. Along with sharing the same facility, agreements have been made on joint news and weather content, community event support and co-marketing. The move creates the largest and most comprehensive newsgathering organization in the area and looks to greatly impact the citizens of the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry regions of Georgia and South Carolina.
While each organization maintains its identity the partnership creates unique revenue generating programs for both entities. These opportunities are expressed in print via Weather Pages, Hurricane Tracking coverage and more. In broadcast the partnership allows popular print programs to find their way over the air, one of these examples is the Savvy Shopper.
Interactive media also receives an increased boost in both content and exposure with this partnership. WJCL and WTGS’s website www.TheCoastalSource.com and www.SavannahNow.com share interactive and mobile content and increased user generated material to create a more fulfilling web experience.
