For Immediate Release – April 22, 2011 (Youngstwon, Ohio) -
Parkin Broadcasting L.L.C. and New Vision Television of Youngstown are proud to announce another prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for excellence in electronic journalism. The team of reporter Peggy Sinkovich and videographer Nick Rich are recipients for their coverage of a case of excessive police force in an arrest of a disabled man. The pair of Sinkovich and Rich also won a Murrow in 2008, with Rich holding a third from 1995.
The Edward R. Murrow awards are issued annually by the Radio Television Digital News Association. Awards are judged by medium, region, and market size. The Youngstown, Ohio television market competes with other similarly sized television markets in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
“Peggy and Nick continue to generate award-winning work on a regular basis. The most difficult part of this is deciding which of their stories to enter,” says News Director Gary Coursen. “Their work on several occasions has caused changes in practices, procedures, and policies, that ultimately benefit local citizens.”
Sinkovich has been with Parkin Broadcasting’s WYTV since 2005, while Rich has been with the station for more than 30 years. This year’s Murrow was issued in the name of WYTV, but the duo’s work appeared on all the stations owned or operated by NVT in the Youngstown market.
