CBS 42’s Deadly Deception Wins Documentary of the Year Award

WIAT – TV, CBS 42, is honored to be the recipient of the Documentary of the Year Award from the Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP for “Deadly Deception,” a one hour documentary focusing on the toxic soil and air plaguing North Birmingham communities.
The award was bestowed upon CBS 42 during the Recognizing Achievers of 2011 Annual Awards Ceremony held on Saturday, January 21, 2012. The Metro Birmingham Branch NAACP evaluates work which has made a powerful impact and continues to make a collective contribution to the community and then honors them at this annual banquet.
“Pollution in our local communities has been an on-going concern for years, but an investigative report had never been conducted,” said Bill Ballard, President and General Manager of CBS 42. “After we started digging we were shocked to learn of the high toxicity levels plaguing Birmingham residents.”
Bill Payer, News Director of CBS 42 said, “While we are extremely honored to win the Documentary of the Year Award, our work is not done. There are still hundreds of families who do not have the answers they are searching for and until they do, CBS 42 will continue to ask the tough questions.”
